For the past 16 years I've been connecting people with solutions that work.
• Live classes
• Group exercise certifications
Wherever and however I could to help folks see that fitness and health is non-negotiable.
For the past 9 years specifically though, my team and I have been connecting people with solutions that work THROUGH fit groups, also known as Challenge Groups. Sparta Nation has been "doing" challenge groups long before they were a "thing". We just knew that marrying fitness AND nutrition AND community AND a coach as a resource was a winning combination. So we did it.
And it does not matter how many groups I've run, or how many I'll run in the future. I mentor ONE group at a time and this group right here....well, it's special to me. In 9 years, I've had 2 or 3 groups of folks who are just special...and this #fiercefit tribe is one of them.
They are moms and dads, husbands and wives, sisters and brothers.
Some work full time OUTside the home, some INside the home. Some are NEW to fitness. Some are marathoners. Some want to make fitness their full time gig. Some want a way to engage with grownups that don't require a diaper change. Some just want to stay accountable to their fitness journey. Some want to use our group as motivation to get to the next level.
All of them inspire me on the daily.
They make fitness and health a priority. And every time they press play and drink a shake, they show their families that fitness is important. That THEY are important. They know they are more patient, they are kinder, they are happier, they are better parents and spouses, they are just BETTER on the other side of their workout and shake.
It's funny. They send me emails or messages telling me "thanks" for helping them.
My life would not be the same without these rockstars and the thanks goes to THEM.
Growing up, I never thought, "I want to be a fitness coach when I grow up". I figured you had to be a doctor or lawyer to make a difference.
Truth is, you don't "have" to be anything but who you are and who God made you to be.
For some reason, God put this love of fitness and people and teaching into my heart...and because He did, I get to cross paths with the most amazing people.
Many have shared their stories with me, but there is always room for more. There's room for YOU.
Our #fiercefit tribe will welcome you with open arms.
That's what we do.
Then we'll push you and challenge you and keep you on track. Because that's what we do too.

If you've ever taken a class or certification of mine, you've probably heard me say, "You've got to get uncomfortable." When you get out of your comfort zone you'll grow. Well I had to take my own advice this week and get uncomfortable.
I have no problem getting in front of 100+ people at the Fishers YMCA to teach a class -- or even in front of 250 people during a certification like I did last year in Las Vegas -- but have me sit down and talk, that's where the nerves kick in. I'm MUCH more comfortable when I can MOVE. But this week, I got uncomfortable and I'm SO grateful for the experience.
WISH-TV's morning news anchor, Lauren Lowrey, came to the Fishers YMCA to get a sneak peek at what we are all about and allowed me to share my passion for fitness! I still get goosebumps when I teach class...I still believe all of us are capable of doing more and BEING more...I still believe fitness is non-negotiable and it's up to us to make it happen in a way that works for us....I still love love love my job...I still get so inspired by by class members...I still aspire to make a difference every dang day.
So, yes I was uncomfortable at times. But yes, it was TOTALLY worth it!
Tune in to WISH-TV on April 1 to see the interview!
It is Y FOR ALL WEEK!! That means we are raising money to help everyone be a part of the YMCA. Take a moment...and think about your network at the Y....can you imagine NOT having the experience of meeting your friends, connecting, sharing, getting healthy, just being together, at the YMCA?
I grew up in a YMCA...took swim lessons, gymnastics lessons, and during summers in college, tennis lessons. My girls all took swim lessons at the YMCA, starting with the Mommy and Me classes...and yes, I cried when Jessy was old enough to take swim lessons on her own and there was no more Mommy and Me class.
We moved several times and the Y has been a part of our moves. in 2001, the Y played an integral part in my life. We moved to a town where I didn't know anyone...my husband started his first head coaching job and was never home....my oldest started kindergarten...my middle started preschool...I had a newborn baby....my father passed away....our dog died. All in the span of about 3 months. All I could do each day was get up, get the girls to school, and myself to the Y. I could not think past that. I knew if I could get myself to the Y to workout, I'd figure out the rest of the day from there. The Waukesha Family YMCA saved me.
I started my fitness career at that Waukesha Family YMCA. Sitting on the blue bench in the lobby, waiting on my girls to finish gymnastics, the fitness director sat down next to me and said, "you need to start teaching and I want you to start next month." As a former high school English teacher who was passionate about fitness, it kind of blew my mind why I never thought to put the two of my loves together - teaching + fitness = heaven. It took someone at the YMCA to put an opportunity in front of me that would change my life.
The YMCA is about more than just fitness...it's about more than fancy locker rooms or pretty towels or top of the line equipment. It's about community. It's about caring. It's about making a difference. It's about family. It's about serving others. And this week we get the chance to help others have the same opportunity that we might take for granted every day....and that's to join our YMCA.
So please.....get out your SUPER HERO GEAR and get out your CASH!! Tomorrow and Friday, have fun with your favorite super hero stuff...and bring CASH!! I'll be taking donations at the door and every penny goes to the Y for All Campaign. Every dollar makes a difference. Spread the word and let's raise some serious money for the Y for All!!
