The past few days I’ve been running this casual little Behind the Scenes Beachbody Coaching Q & A with some of my coaches. I love mentoring women to build this business and love answering questions about the business -- mostly because it’s super cool to break down those myths and misconceptions about coaching. I’ve loved it even more this week because right now especially, I am particularly aware of how this business has changed our lives.
Connecting the dots
In just a few weeks, our oldest daughter graduates from college. It’s an easy time to reflect on everything SHE has accomplished. It’s also the perfect time to connect the dots between what she’s been able to do and experience in high school and college and the growth of my Beachbody business.
Jenna discovered singing at age 3, sung in choirs from 3 to 18, and then stumbled onto Color Guard in high school. She came home with a flag in her hand her freshman year and boom! That was all she wrote.
These two passions - singing and Color Guard - brought with them some really cool opportunities.
Her talent, work ethic, and drive + my Beachbody coaching business = incredible life-changing experiences.
The past few months have been challenging for our middle daughter, Josie, and for us. Josie is an aspiring ballerina and has been training with Orlando Ballet for the last 18 months. Her hips have always bothered her but last fall, the pain in her left hip was unbearable to the point she couldn’t dance. The MRI revealed both a tear (later, we’d find out there were actually 2 tears) and fairly significant hip dysplasia. Both would require surgery and a lot of weeks of rehab. That meant no more dancing. That meant moving back home. That meant putting a dream that she’s worked toward for 17 years on hold.
Whether she is able to pursue ballet again or not isn’t the point. The point is that I am able to be there every step of that way, no matter what she does.
There is a direct and strong line between Josie’s ballet experiences and me pressing play, drinking a shake, reading a book, and having conversations every day.
Her talent, work ethic and drive + my Beachbody coaching business = incredible life changing experiences
Over the past 2 years, Jessy, our youngest, has truly found her passion - musical theater. Always a singer and always a performer, the two pieces of the puzzle didn’t fully come together until she made Carmel High School’s highest show choir, as a sophomore. That enormous vote of confidence, that enormous responsibility to level up, and that enormous opportunity to work with one of the best choral teachers in the country was the catalyst to move something she ‘liked’ into something she HAD to do. Everything sort of came together for her last year and she GOT it...musical theater was her passion. And just like sports, musical theater requires training and practice and high level coaches.
Her talent, work ethic, and drive + my Beachbody coaching business = incredible life changing experiences.
Our lives changed from “If” to “When”
There was a time when we couldn’t make it to the end of the month and pay our bills.
There was a time we had to ask our in-laws for a loan.
There was a time when I’d toss and turn all night, wondering how we were going to put our daughters in the places of most potential, how we were going to give them every shot possible at pursuing their passions.
Then this crazy little business called Beachbody fell into my life. And simply by pressing play, drinking a shake, reading a book and having a conversation, everything started to change. Funny how those small seemingly insignificant moments in life turn out to be the ones most memorable. That moment I decided to say yes to becoming a coach. Having no real idea what that meant or how it’d look in my life. Just saying yes and figuring it out along the way. Committing to putting Indiana on the map in the Team Beachbody World and working relentlessly to surround myself with a tribe of incredible women on a mission to live their best lives too.
And day by day, bit by bit, our lives changed from “If” to “When”.
This ‘little coaching thing’, as so many in my family called it and thought of it when I started, gave us HOPE and POSSIBILITY. The hope that we could CREATE the life we wanted to create and the knowledge that we had the tools to do it. The feeling that there was such great possibility and potential in this business, in this life, buried in US, and that this business could help us dig it out and let it shine to light the way for others. Most of all, that this coaching business could provide hope and possibility for these fearlessly fierce daughters of ours...these 3 brilliant young women who deserved every shot we could give them.
Maybe pressing play, drinking a shake, reading a book and having conversations doesn’t seem like something that could change lives. As my mentor Jeff Hill often says, we don’t usually know history is being made when we’re in the moment. Sometimes we don’t know how special something is when we’re just IN it. I didn’t know that saying yes to coaching was going to change my life on every level. And yet, those simple activities are building a legacy every day. What started 10 years ago at my kitchen table continues today with the same passion, the same fire...because knowing what this business has done for me, in our lives, for our daughters, makes me even MORE driven to make sure every person I can reach knows about it...and knows that THIS is for them too.

7 years in the making
Back in 2015 my incredible team of Beachbody coaches achieved a big goal, one we had worked 7 years to achieve.
Some might ask why this goal didn't happen sooner.
Simple answer? We weren't ready.
The Turning Point
The turning point in my business, in ME, came at the end of 2014, something magical started to happen. A program came into my life that changed everything - Insanity Max30. I got very uncomfortable and asked someone for personal mentorship. The right people joined our team. Veteran coaches stepped up and into leadership. Although we've always been a pretty tight team, the bond grew stronger and we saw our goal with clarity. The goal was so bright and the pull was so strong and we moved together as one toward that goal. Our language became WHEN we achieve our goal, not "If".
15 is the magic number
On April 15th, 2015, the 15th week of the year, we became a SuperStar Diamond Team, also known as a 15 Star Diamond Team - this is a big deal in Beachbody world.
In September of that year, I made good on the promise I made years ago....that when we accomplished that goal, we were going to Disney. (Cue the appropriately timed Super Bowl commercial right here )
That was then, this is now
Last week, I had some of my newer coaches over for lunch...these #fiercefemale coaches who have literally changed the energy on our team with their work ethic and freaking GET IT DONE attitude.
Need something accomplished? Cool. It's handled. They handle it. They just figure it out and their drive has re-energized everyone. They blow my mind on the daily.
After lunch at my house, they all got up, and I assumed we were taking a group picture. Nope. THEY were taking a group shot. WITH their bracelets. In a circle. None of them had EVER seen the first picture above from 2015 on our first Disney trip with our team bracelets.
I stood off to the side with my good friend and fellow coach, April Kever, and watched this happen while my daughter, Josie, took their picture, and I tried really hard not to cry. Without EVER seeing the picture that was taken in 2015, these newer coaches recreated it on their own, in my kitchen.
My vow for 2018
Every morning when I get up, I write down 3 goals that I am driven to accomplish with my team.
Watching these newer coaches recreate that picture...CREATE new energy on our team....well, to me it all means this:
Because so much of team growth relies on personal leadership, I vow to work hard every day to be the leader this absolutely AMAZING team deserves. It will be a continual process, because there's never an end game to getting better. But when we KNOW better, we must DO better. And every day, my goal is to be just a little bit better than the day before, in SOME way.
I can see our goals. The team can see our goals.
They are so bright, so clear, so within our reach.
And we are ready.
It is time.
We are ready to create something stunningly remarkably amazing together..and you can be part of our future.
Be part of the future
If you have ever felt drawn to be part of something bigger, something that pushes and inspires you to find your fierce, join us. Join my team of coaches and discover your greatness. Create something amazing with us.
In this new year, let’s get rid of assumptions and let’s START where WE are today. Let’s just START. Without comparing to someone else's journey. Megan got a plan and she got a tribe and she made changes that created opportunities for her. We can do the same. As long as we START. Since that's the piece that stops most folks, once we just DO IT, once we just START, we're already making progress.
Need help starting? I got you.
This health and fitness stuff? It’s my passion. I live and breathe it. I want to help you FIND YOUR FIERCE.
