I will tell you that the best results I've gotten are from pushing play at home. BUT that doesn't mean that is my ONLY option for fitness. In fact, I LOVE getting out and trying new fitness options. Options are awesome -- there isn't ONE way to live your healthiest, fierce, life, there are MANY ways so why not get out and try some of them -- any of them!
I'm launching a new blog series called, Fit in the City, to take you into the studio and classes with me.
The more I learn about fitness, the more passionate I become about low-impact, high-technique, focused workouts, especially ones that have an element of resistance training. SolidCore is a brand-new-to-Indy boutique fitness studio that combines strength training + Pilates movements on a mega-former. According to the SolidCore website:
“[solidcore] is 50 minutes of high-intensity, low-impact, slow & controlled movements on our resistance-based [sweatlana]. Classes are intense and purposefully sequenced to work your muscles to [failure]. [solidcore] may resemble other Pilates classes, but we assure you, we are unlike any workout you’ve experienced before. Each move at [solidcore] has the foundation of a plank, squat, or lunge, with a plethora of variations to help strengthen your entire body.”
Not your grandma's pilates class
This definitely wasn’t just another Pilates class – the emphasis was on form, yes, but it was very much on SPEED. In fact, the SLOWER, the better.
SolidCore’s mantra is slower = stronger, and class members are constantly encouraged to slllloooooooowwww down their movements. The music is continuous beat-driven pop which I loved and I was literally dripping with sweat about 15 minutes in!
SolidCore is a total body workout, with sections of class for upper body, lower body, and the always-favorite obliques!! Personally, this is not a class I would do every day, and that is OKAY!! Not every kind of format has to be done 7 days a week!! I absolutely can feel this workout already and envision doing it 2-3X a week to increase muscle awareness, build core strength, and shred all over. Bottom line is that when our CORE is strong, everything else just feels and functions better...so I welcome all opportunities to strengthen my core in a way that is emphases function over aesthetics
Where you can find it
The studio in Indy is located at Clay Terrace, an outdoor upper-scale shopping area. It’s small and there are only 11 megaformers so classes are intimate and focused. Class is done barefoot, make sure to bring water, and towels are supplied - you’ll need one!
Final #fierce thoughts
Overall, this boutique fitness class is a great addition to the Indy fitness scene. The more options we have to make fitness and health a non-negotiable part of our lives, the BETTER for sure! If you have this boutique in your community, give it a go! You might find you have another tool in your fitness toolbox!
