When I was growing up, we had a fake Christmas tree we set up in our basement. Every year my Mom complained about it being in the basement.
She wanted it on the first floor where she could see it every day (understandable) but we had ALWAYS put it in the basement. And the basement was where we had ALWAYS done Christmas festivities.
She thought it was the only place big enough to hold the family and the presents and the food, and it's what was done. Year after year, the tree was set up in the basement.
And every year, she complained about it.
You know what we could have done?
We could have just had 2 trees. One in the basement.
One upstairs. Simple.
It’s interesting how humans get so confined by "what we've always done".
What seems like an insignificant moment - a tree in the basement - is an indicator of a mindset.
There’s a big difference between a holiday tradition and thinking small.
There’s a big difference between comforting ritual and thinking small.
There’s a big difference between peaceful routine and thinking small.
Moral of the story? Have as many trees as you want, wherever you want. Put them all over the house in every room....or don’t, if that’s not your jam.
Create your life ON PURPOSE by thinking and playing BIG. In all ways.
Think big, dream big, act big...and put your Christmas trees all over your house.
Life is too precious to play small in ANY way.

Meet Rebecca...a wife, mom, former 5th grade teacher, coach and without question, a #FierceFemale.
Here is her story....
How did you become a coach?
I discovered coaching after a couple years on my journey with Beachbody. I found P90X through an infomercial in 2011, but didn’t know anything about coaching or challenge groups or anything… I just wanted to lose some weight and get healthier. As someone who was always overweight, had no knowledge of what healthy eating really looked like, and had never been described as active or fit or athletic, I felt like success with P90X was a LONG shot. But, after a year of P90X and TurboJam I had lost over 60+ pounds and felt better than I had my entire life.
It was about that time that I became curious about this Shakeology thing Tony Horton kept talking about, and I reached out to a friend on Facebook about it since I had seen her drinking it. She shared it with me, and I ordered a bag with the full intention of sending it back because I felt it was too expensive and wouldn’t really make THAT big of a difference.
After 30 days I realized I HAD to find a way to fit it into our tight budget and that’s when the opportunity to get the discount with a coach account was presented… and I jumped in! But not to actively coaching… I wanted nothing to do with that. Just wanted to save money. After several years, I realized that I could use my heart and passion for teaching and my newly discovered passion for health and fitness to help other people realize their potential, and that’s when I started actively coaching, engaging with the team, and running challenge groups regularly.
What has coaching done for you and your life?
Coaching has been a huge blessing in my life as a wife and mother! Most importantly, coaching has kept me accountable to my OWN health and fitness journey which also means I’ve been able to keep my wife accountable to her journey and show my daughters what healthy looks likes and feels like right inside our home… that fitness and health isn’t “extra” but it’s just part of who we are as a family. It’s also allowed me to be a stay at home mom… something I always wanted to do, but never knew it was a possibility with my career in teaching and my family needing that teaching income. Coaching allowed me to positively impact the lives of others which, in turn, allowed me to create an income from anywhere. While I build the beginning stages of it while I was still full-time teaching, the flexibility of being able to truly work the business from anywhere to whatever extent I want, has been a blessing for my entire family.
What is your favorite part of being a coach?
My favorite part about coaching is the community! From my challenge groups to our team of coaches, I’ve met and connected and built friendships with women I never would have connected with had it not been for coaching. As someone who grew up with not a lot of close friends, it has been a great blessing for me personally. I love helping other people uncover their potential and seeing the light bulb come on when they realize they’re stronger than they ever knew. Being a leader in these positive spaces is something I am proud of in a world that so often turns to negativity.
What advice do you have for those considering coaching?
My advice for people considering coaching – do it. Do it and go all in. Give it one year, and if your life isn’t better in a year from your decision to be a coach on our team, just be a customer and rock that. No one I went to high school or college with (including myself!) would have ever put “future coach” on their radar of where I’d be in my life. Never. I didn’t have any fitness experience, was overweight, had no business experience. But I had a solution that changed my life. And I had the heart to help others by sharing that solution. Everything else can be learned.
Just a couple of years ago, this wouldn't have been possible...this day trip for a college master class / visit with Jenna day in NYC.
Just a couple of years ago, we couldn't pay our bills. Today, it's different. We are different.
Now don't get it twisted. For most of the years we've been married, we've had financial struggles. We still have lots of college years ahead of us, debt to repay, and a Nordstrom addiction to break (my accountant can confirm this!)
But something like this day trip? Not even possible just a couple of year ago.
It's truly amazing what happens when you just open your head and heart to possibility, work your tail off, and love what you do every single day.
Never sell yourself short.
You are capable of amazing things.
