With the natural disasters and horrific events in Las Vegas, it's easy to feel like our world is out of control. As a parent, the most important mission I am on is to keep my children safe. Happy, yes. But before that...safe. The craziness that used to be out of the ordinary now feels like an every day occurrence and nothing could be scarier than that.
So how do we deal with this? For me, I have to focus on controlling the controllable. Do the stuff I would normally do...BUT with a deeper sense of appreciation. We can focus on knowing there are folks who wish they could go about a normal day today...but cannot. We can move through our day with gratefulness, knowing that there but for the grace of God go you and I. And we can hug our families a little tighter when we see them.
As Lin-Manuel Miranda said recently, we keep going.
We lead with love and we keep going.
Focus on what we can control -- showing up, being grateful, being kind.
And we keep going.
If we want change in the world, we have to BE the change.
If we want more love in the world, we have to BE the love...and SHARE the love.
