Nutrition is hands down the hardest piece of the wellness puzzle. What to eat? When to eat? How to eat in a busy life? #FierceFit people keep it simple and rely on the tribe to stay on track AND for ideas.
I'm excited to share this week's #FierceFoodFriday recipe as it is one of my absolute favorites.
Not only is it delicious and healthy but it is also from Disney, so you know it's extra magical.
Please let me know what you think!
Kale Salad With Dried Cherries, Almonds and Goat Cheese
Serves 6-8 as side salad or 4 as entrée
White Balsamic Vinaigrette
Mix together all ingredients for Kale Salad in large bowl. For vinaigrette, place shallots, vinegar and honey in blender or food processor. Blend on low and slowly add olive oil until blended. Season with salt and pepper. To serve, toss salad with desired amount of white balsamic vinaigrette and top with goat cheese and toasted almonds. (Refrigerate any unused balsamic vinaigrette.)
The road to good health is paved one good choice, at a time. An easy -- and tasty -- choice that can have positive impact on your health is the decision to add grapefruit to your diet.
Recently grapefruit was listed by BodyBuilding.com as one of the 15 best foods for burning fat. Citing a study by the Scripps Clinic in San Diego, the website suggests that eating just one half of a grapefruit a day can lead to a loss of four pounds over three months, even when no other modifications to diet are made. If you prefer to drink your fruits, you can also drink three 8-ounce glasses of grapefruit juice daily for the same effect. The researchers believe that chemical in grapefruit, known as naringin, can reduce insulin levels and prevent fat storage.
Be careful, however, if you take certain medications. Grapefruit and grapefruit juice can have negative and severe interactions with certain drugs including blood pressure and cholesterol medications, antihistamines, and psychiatric medications. If you routinely take medicine, check with your doctor or pharmacist before adding grapefruit or grapefruit juice to your daily diet.
Once you have the go-ahead, however, stock your fridge with grapefruit and enjoy the fat-burning boost, one grapefruit at a time!
If you've heard me say it once, then you've heard me say it a gazillion times - the key to fitness and nutrition is to KEEP IT SIMPLE!

This week I shared some of my best fitness and nutrition tips with FOX 59, during a new segment called "Fit on FOX".
In case you missed it, you can watch it here: http://bit.ly/1ljcxY8
And if you don't want to watch it, I'll give you my tips right now!
The first step is to MOVE MORE. For some that may mean taking an extra class during the week - but for others it may mean just taking a walk around the block. Movement is a MUST. In order to be healthy, you have to be active.
If you’re not a ‘gym person’, no problem, you can try an at home workout, like Insanity, P90X, 21 Day Fix or the upcoming PiYo. If you thrive on the group exercise scene - then check out your local gyms or YMCA’s. The bottom line is, the best workout program is one that you will DO!
You can't workout all the time, then eat like crap, so that's why it's important to EAT REAL FOOD. The less processed food you eat, the healthier you are. Read lables. Eat food with ingredients you can pronounce. Most of the time fewer ingredients it has - the better it is.
DRINK, DRINK , DRINK...water that is! Water is SO important for keeping your body hydrated and functioning properly. General rule of thumb: DIVIDE YOUR BODY WEIGHT IN HALF, THAT IS THE AMOUNT OF WATER YOU NEED TO DRINK EACH DAY!
When working out, that amount will change. You need to drink water BEFORE, DURING and AFTER your workouts. Check out this great info from Greatist.com:
Not a fan of water? Spice up your water with fresh fruit, cucumbers or even high-grade essential oils.
