Coming off a wonderful girls trip to New York City with my three favorite fierce females (my daughters!), I'm waking up with a heart bursting with gratitude.
Gratitude for opportunities.
Gratitude for an ability to dream big.
And most of all gratitude for those who have served, given their freedom so we may have our freedom.
It really is hard to imagine people spending time on ships like The Intrepid, flying planes and landing on ships like this, being away from family to serve our country. Understanding it is a little easier, though, because my Dad did exactly all of that.
40 years in the US Navy, serving his country and loving every minute of it.
I am so grateful for the men and women in our military...and especially for my Dad. I sure wish he was here to meet his amazing granddaughters and to see them following their passions every day.
If there is one lesson I hope my girls will never forget it is this. Dream. And dream big and do everything you can to go after that dream.
I never told my girls what they should be. But my husband and I have always believed in giving them opportunities so they can try out life and decide which path of life they are meant to lead.
I'm continually humbled each time I'm able to create those opportunities for my kids, like being able to stand on a Broadway stage with a Broadway star, Becca Petersen of the 12-Tony award nominated, Mean Girls.
There is a passion in us all....we just have to be brave enough to ignore the doubts, the disappointments and set-backs to go after it.
Today, as we approach a new month, I encourage you, as I encourage my girls -- find your fierce...and live it!
