The past few days I’ve been running this casual little Behind the Scenes Beachbody Coaching Q & A with some of my coaches. I love mentoring women to build this business and love answering questions about the business -- mostly because it’s super cool to break down those myths and misconceptions about coaching. I’ve loved it even more this week because right now especially, I am particularly aware of how this business has changed our lives.
Connecting the dots
In just a few weeks, our oldest daughter graduates from college. It’s an easy time to reflect on everything SHE has accomplished. It’s also the perfect time to connect the dots between what she’s been able to do and experience in high school and college and the growth of my Beachbody business.
Jenna discovered singing at age 3, sung in choirs from 3 to 18, and then stumbled onto Color Guard in high school. She came home with a flag in her hand her freshman year and boom! That was all she wrote.
These two passions - singing and Color Guard - brought with them some really cool opportunities.
Her talent, work ethic, and drive + my Beachbody coaching business = incredible life-changing experiences.
The past few months have been challenging for our middle daughter, Josie, and for us. Josie is an aspiring ballerina and has been training with Orlando Ballet for the last 18 months. Her hips have always bothered her but last fall, the pain in her left hip was unbearable to the point she couldn’t dance. The MRI revealed both a tear (later, we’d find out there were actually 2 tears) and fairly significant hip dysplasia. Both would require surgery and a lot of weeks of rehab. That meant no more dancing. That meant moving back home. That meant putting a dream that she’s worked toward for 17 years on hold.
Whether she is able to pursue ballet again or not isn’t the point. The point is that I am able to be there every step of that way, no matter what she does.
There is a direct and strong line between Josie’s ballet experiences and me pressing play, drinking a shake, reading a book, and having conversations every day.
Her talent, work ethic and drive + my Beachbody coaching business = incredible life changing experiences
Over the past 2 years, Jessy, our youngest, has truly found her passion - musical theater. Always a singer and always a performer, the two pieces of the puzzle didn’t fully come together until she made Carmel High School’s highest show choir, as a sophomore. That enormous vote of confidence, that enormous responsibility to level up, and that enormous opportunity to work with one of the best choral teachers in the country was the catalyst to move something she ‘liked’ into something she HAD to do. Everything sort of came together for her last year and she GOT it...musical theater was her passion. And just like sports, musical theater requires training and practice and high level coaches.
Her talent, work ethic, and drive + my Beachbody coaching business = incredible life changing experiences.
Our lives changed from “If” to “When”
There was a time when we couldn’t make it to the end of the month and pay our bills.
There was a time we had to ask our in-laws for a loan.
There was a time when I’d toss and turn all night, wondering how we were going to put our daughters in the places of most potential, how we were going to give them every shot possible at pursuing their passions.
Then this crazy little business called Beachbody fell into my life. And simply by pressing play, drinking a shake, reading a book and having a conversation, everything started to change. Funny how those small seemingly insignificant moments in life turn out to be the ones most memorable. That moment I decided to say yes to becoming a coach. Having no real idea what that meant or how it’d look in my life. Just saying yes and figuring it out along the way. Committing to putting Indiana on the map in the Team Beachbody World and working relentlessly to surround myself with a tribe of incredible women on a mission to live their best lives too.
And day by day, bit by bit, our lives changed from “If” to “When”.
This ‘little coaching thing’, as so many in my family called it and thought of it when I started, gave us HOPE and POSSIBILITY. The hope that we could CREATE the life we wanted to create and the knowledge that we had the tools to do it. The feeling that there was such great possibility and potential in this business, in this life, buried in US, and that this business could help us dig it out and let it shine to light the way for others. Most of all, that this coaching business could provide hope and possibility for these fearlessly fierce daughters of ours...these 3 brilliant young women who deserved every shot we could give them.
Maybe pressing play, drinking a shake, reading a book and having conversations doesn’t seem like something that could change lives. As my mentor Jeff Hill often says, we don’t usually know history is being made when we’re in the moment. Sometimes we don’t know how special something is when we’re just IN it. I didn’t know that saying yes to coaching was going to change my life on every level. And yet, those simple activities are building a legacy every day. What started 10 years ago at my kitchen table continues today with the same passion, the same fire...because knowing what this business has done for me, in our lives, for our daughters, makes me even MORE driven to make sure every person I can reach knows about it...and knows that THIS is for them too.
