The new year means we have a clean slate. We can create the life WE want to live. We can start fresh. We can dream big and make changes that we want in our lives. Anything is possible. Truly ANYTHING -- but we have to believe it.
While we can't control everything, especially other people, the one thing we can control is ourselves and our thoughts. We have total control over what we put into our heads. We can choose to focus on the negative or focus on the positive. We can choose to allow other's negativity bring us down, or we can choose to surround ourselves with only those people who build us up and are positive forces in our lives.
As I mentioned in a previous blog, I use podcasts to fill my brain with positive stuff. Sometimes it is business related, other times it's personal. But regardless, just incorporating at least 10 minutes of positive fuel for my head has greatly impacted my life.
Life is all about choices. The new year offers the opportunity to fill it with ANY choice we'd like. What kind of choices will fill 2015 for you? Just by making ONE healthier choice each day you CAN change your life.
Ever have a thought, a realization, an epiphany of sorts, literally strike you like a lightening bolt, out of the blue?
After finishing day 59's Insanity Max 30 workout and marking it off on the calendar, I had a realization. Shaun T has been a major catalyst in my life 2 times in the past 2 years.
I've been a master trainer for Turbo Kick and PiYo for many years. Turbo Kick is the format that truly started my entire career in fitness and it's my soulmate workout. PiYo is the format that helped me embrace flexibility and low impact training and changed how my body functioned. In late 2012, after training literally thousands of people over many years in these formats, I found myself a bit "burned out" on training. The love was still there...but the motivation was not.
Then along came Shaun T and Insanity LIVE. We got word in late 2012 that Insanity was going live and I made a quick and not so convenient trip to California in the middle of Nutcracker week to learn more about this format.
After some thinking, I made the decision to audition to be an Insanity master trainer. It was NOT an easy process. When you've been doing something for quite a while, you feel pretty confident in that something. Insanity was a new live format and it felt like going back to the beginning...to that first trip years ago to California and meeting Chalene and wondering what ever made me think I could be a master trainer. I had to get really serious about my own training...I had to be coachable and teachable and willing to take a lot of critique and feedback. Imagine a small group exercise room, completely drenched in sweat, hardest workout of your life, with Shaun in your face telling you to get lower in that squat.
It was hard...it was uncomfortable...it was humbling...
And it was AWESOME.
Working with Shaun one on one...having to go back to my roots and learn how to train folks in an entirely new format....well, it lit my fire for being a master trainer.
2013 was the year of Insanity and I was privileged to be one of the first master trainers for Insanity Live. I traveled a lot, met all kinds of new folks who wouldn't have come to a Turbo Kick or PiYo training, and completely fell in love with being a master trainer again.
Fast forward to mid 2014. I just completed the PiYo 60 day program and had absolutely LOVED it....but was a bit lost. My long time personal trainer had left to start his own business, I didn't have a program outside of my classes, I was in a rut.
Got a call out of the blue asking me if I would like to be part of the test group for Insanity Max30. The call came on Wednesday. I received the program on Friday and we started on Monday. At our Beachbody Leadership meeting in September, we had done a live version of Max30 and been given a preview workout....so I had an idea of what to expect.
I knew it would be hard...it would be uncomfortable....it would be humbling.
And it's been AWESOME.
Being part of the test group has allowed me the amazing opportunity to be a challengER, to just be part of a group as a member, not as a leader or teacher. It's given me the opportunity to be inspired by all the other amazing folks in the test group...it's given me the opportunity to once again me mentored by Shaun and to learn from one of the best in the business. I expect to like the program...I didn't expect to completely fall in love with it.
The past 60 days propelled me out of my rut and into a new level of fitness. I fell in love with Insanity again and have been reminded daily that fitness IS life....what we do in our workouts affects what we do in our lives. After all, if I can get up and do a Max30 workout every day, for 60 days, at 5:30am, I can do just about anything, right?? I am so fired up to start this program again on January 5th with my own challengers...excited to see what changes physically and mentally a second round will create and more excited to witness the results that WILL happen with my challenge group. It's going to be incredible.
If you feel like you're at a plateau....if you are considering Max30 but are nervous it will be too hard...if you are thinking about ANY goal but are scared, uncomfortable, uncertain...... Just do it.
Don't think. Just do. Take the leap. Do the work. The coolest part IS in the work.
Embrace the hard, embrace the uncomfortable, embrace being humbled. That is truly where the magic happens. Happy 2015.

Last week my middle daughter, Josie, was on stage as the Sugar Plum Fairy....this week she's on stage at the New York City Ballet. It's moments like this that remind me why I continue to DREAM BIG!
Having the opportunity to create these memories with my family -- and take the time away from my business to be present and focus on them, is the best gift I could ever ask for -- and it wouldn't be possible without Beachbody. I'm eternally grateful.
One of my favorite parts about being a Beachbody Coach is the emphasis on personal development. After, we can't grow professionally - no matter what our industry or job - unless we grow personally. Often I fill my brain with positive 'stuff'' via podcasts.
Do you have the Podcast app on your phone? It's a great tool and makes it so easy to find podcasts. Podcasts are fantastic ways to educate yourself on all sorts of topics without having sit down and read. I listen in the car on most days -- others listen while they're making dinner or getting dressed in the morning. Think of it as a mobile motivator! And while reading is still one of my favorite activities, let's face it, life is busy and if we can learn on the go, it's a win win!

Parenting is about being inconvenienced.
When you decide to have children, you are making the conscious decision that someone else's needs come before yours and you will be "inconvenienced" for many years.
Sleepless nights, learning how to do a diaper, figuring out what the heck cradle cap is, trips to the pediatrician, ear infections, more sleepless nights, following the bus to school on the first day of kindergarten, enrolling in all kinds of lessons so they find the "thing" that clicks with them, navigating the tricky waters of middle school, being a listening ear, countless trips to school because they "forgot ___ and they need it for school today!", asking the tough questions, having the tough conversations, more sleepless nights, saying no when everyone else is saying yes, sticking to your guns, doing what your gut tells you is right, driving to early morning practices, picking up from late night practices, learning about each child's passion and helping them follow it, cutting family trips short because of rehearsals, planning family trips around a child's activity, endless time in the car, did I mention sleepless nights?, having your heart break when rehearsals, shows, performances don't go well, having your heart break even more when they get injured, more time in the car, and list goes on...
But then...then, you get this: feeling your heart swell with joy - more than you thought possible - when they ROCK the 'thing' they love, being so grateful that their passions introduced you to worlds you didn't really know (Hello, Color Guard, DCI, ballet, music, cheer - nice to meet you!). watching them find their wings and simply soar, being amazed by the people they are growing into, being blown away by their courage and confidence, being inspired by them on a daily basis.
I'll take being "inconvenienced" any day.
