There are those people in your life who, from the moment you meet them, you KNOW they are fighters. They are driven. They are determined. They are laser-focused on getting it done. Kia Rivers is one of those people.
When she first walked into my Turbo class in January she was nearly 400 pounds. Tired of being tired, Kia was determined to stop "killing herself with food," as she put it.
She is now down more than 100 pounds and is more determined than ever to continue on her journey and lose another 100 pounds. Since taking her first step on the path to wellness, Kia has become a Team Beachbody coach as well as a certified TurboKick instructor. She may not be at her goal weight yet!) but she is on her way and that is all that matters.
As a fitness professional and Beachcody coach myself, I've lost count of how many times I've heard someone say "Oh I can't teach class....I'm not at my goal weight"....or "oh I can't be a coach...I'm still on my journey". You know what I think the most powerful part of Kia's story truly is? The fact that she did not wait for the elusive and nonexistent "perfect moment"....she made a decision to change her life. Rather than wait until her journey was complete (which never happens), she decided to TAKE PEOPLE ALONG WITH HER on the journey!! And let's admit, journeys are a lot more fun with friends anyway!

PiYo has been part of my life for 10 years now, but the impact it has had in my life over the past year or so has been incredible.
This weekend I held my last PiYo certification of the year. As a Beachbody Master Trainer, having the opportunity to train folks in this incredible format so they too can share it with others in such an honor.
There is something about PiYo that people are really connecting to -- maybe it's the low-impact format -- maybe it's the strength they gain without ever lifting a weight -- maybe it is the calmness they feel when they are on the mat. Do you ever feel like everyone and everything is on your to-do list, except yourself? Do you find that your health, your needs always come last?
Today I had an opportunity to share some tips on how and more importantly WHY you should give yourself the gift of health this holiday season!
TIP #1: Put yourself on your priority list. Don’t wait until January 1st to get healthy, start now. By moving more and eating better NOW, you’ll be well on your way come January. We are all busy and especially women and moms put everyone else’s needs above our own. But we have to put ourselves on our priority lists.
TIP #2: Grant yourself permission. Its common for folks to to feel guilty for taking time away from the family to go the gym, or go for a walk. And if you’re really having a hard time with that one, then INCLUDE YOUR FAMILY! Grant yourself permission to put you first. YOU DO DESERVE IT! Realize that you are a better parent, spouse, sibling, co-worker or boss when you take care of you! By taking care of yourself you ARE taking care of your family.
TIP #3: Be patient and consistent. Regardless of whatever type of fitness program you choose, know that you’re not going to be great at it right away.Be patient with yourself, be kind to yourself - mentally and physically. Be proud of the fact that you are doing more today than you did yesterday.And you must, must, must be consistent. You don’t have to spend hours in the gym each day but you do have to do something!
Keep it simple, just move more.
