You've probably heard the saying, 'You are what you eat' and guess what -- it is SO true! That's why it is imparative that we fuel our bodies with the best food possible so we can perform our best -- mentally and physically.
One of my FAVORITE superfoods is blueberries - I have them each and every morning with my oatmeal (my personal fave is Three Sisters oatmeal from Whole Foods. It's organic, low in sugar and delish!)
WHY THEY’RE SUPER!
84 calories per cup, a serving of berries contains 14 percent of the suggested daily fiber and 24 percent of the suggested daily intake of Vitamin C. But it gets better. Research suggests blueberries deliver some even more powerful and long-lasting health benefits. One study found that consuming a cup of blueberries per week can lower blood pressure and perhaps speed up metabolism, due mostly to their high levels of anthocyanins (a type of antioxidant). Another study suggests blueberries can lower levels of LDL (the bad cholesterol), potentially reducing the risk of coronary heart disease. Blueberries may also inhibit the growth of breast cancer cells.

Who is excited?!
It's been a long winter in Indiana....and right now, I could be aboard an amazing ship, sailing off to exotic destinations. The SS Beachbody set sail yesterday, heading to Cozumel and the Grand Cayman Islands, both places I've never been. Beachbody has the ENTIRE ship...which means that boat is filled with so much incredible energy, so many positive passionate people...it will be an unforgettable experience. i have so many coaches on the trip, folks who've worked hard, who've shared their passion, who've focused, set goals, and made it happen...I am so so so proud of their hard work and passion for helping others.
I chose to sit this trip out. It's nearly impossible to take two high schoolers and one middle schooler out of school for a week. Jenna is going into her World Guard International competition and needs to be here for practice. Josie has dance. Jessy is just now recovering from her concussion and getting back into her regular schedule. So they're all out.
Maybe it could have been a trip for Coach Hubby and me! Except that it's Butler Spring Football practice with the spring scrimmage on Saturday. So he's out.
Hmmmm that leaves me. My family has never cruised before and it just did not feel right to go on this amazing experience without the people for whom I am building this business. Even though I know this trip will be absolutely phenomenal....even though Beachbody does everything top notch....even though as an Elite Coach, I'd have some pretty cool perks on the ship....I could not go on this adventure without my family.
So I send good wishes for an incredible journey to my coaches. I will enjoy this trip through their pictures and enjoy knowing they are being rewarded for their hard work.
I know that this week, I am right where I am supposed to be.
If you've ever taken a class or certification of mine, you've probably heard me say, "You've got to get uncomfortable." When you get out of your comfort zone you'll grow. Well I had to take my own advice this week and get uncomfortable.
I have no problem getting in front of 100+ people at the Fishers YMCA to teach a class -- or even in front of 250 people during a certification like I did last year in Las Vegas -- but have me sit down and talk, that's where the nerves kick in. I'm MUCH more comfortable when I can MOVE. But this week, I got uncomfortable and I'm SO grateful for the experience.
WISH-TV's morning news anchor, Lauren Lowrey, came to the Fishers YMCA to get a sneak peek at what we are all about and allowed me to share my passion for fitness! I still get goosebumps when I teach class...I still believe all of us are capable of doing more and BEING more...I still believe fitness is non-negotiable and it's up to us to make it happen in a way that works for us....I still love love love my job...I still get so inspired by by class members...I still aspire to make a difference every dang day.
So, yes I was uncomfortable at times. But yes, it was TOTALLY worth it!
Tune in to WISH-TV on April 1 to see the interview!
If your life is like mine, then your life is BUSY...and just seems to keep getting busier! But, just because you're busy doesn't mean you have to fall victim to the 'convenience food trap'.
You know what I'm talking about -- you're running out the door and have three kids in tow and three stops to make in a 15 minute time span, so you grab the first thing you can -- a bag of chips, a sugar-loaded granola bar or maybe you'll just swing through a drive-thru. Sound familiar?
Well before you reach for that bag of chips, granola bar or drive-thru biscuit, check out the 10 THINGS THE PROCESSED FOOD INDUSTRY DOESN'T WANT YOU TO KNOW, from the Hungry for Change website.
This is a GREAT article that sheds some much needed light on the whole processed food industry. This article reconfirms why I love Shakeology so much..because it is FULL of REAL FOOD (70 super foods, to be exact) in each and every scoop!

It is Y FOR ALL WEEK!! That means we are raising money to help everyone be a part of the YMCA. Take a moment...and think about your network at the Y....can you imagine NOT having the experience of meeting your friends, connecting, sharing, getting healthy, just being together, at the YMCA?
I grew up in a YMCA...took swim lessons, gymnastics lessons, and during summers in college, tennis lessons. My girls all took swim lessons at the YMCA, starting with the Mommy and Me classes...and yes, I cried when Jessy was old enough to take swim lessons on her own and there was no more Mommy and Me class.
We moved several times and the Y has been a part of our moves. in 2001, the Y played an integral part in my life. We moved to a town where I didn't know anyone...my husband started his first head coaching job and was never home....my oldest started kindergarten...my middle started preschool...I had a newborn baby....my father passed away....our dog died. All in the span of about 3 months. All I could do each day was get up, get the girls to school, and myself to the Y. I could not think past that. I knew if I could get myself to the Y to workout, I'd figure out the rest of the day from there. The Waukesha Family YMCA saved me.
I started my fitness career at that Waukesha Family YMCA. Sitting on the blue bench in the lobby, waiting on my girls to finish gymnastics, the fitness director sat down next to me and said, "you need to start teaching and I want you to start next month." As a former high school English teacher who was passionate about fitness, it kind of blew my mind why I never thought to put the two of my loves together - teaching + fitness = heaven. It took someone at the YMCA to put an opportunity in front of me that would change my life.
The YMCA is about more than just fitness...it's about more than fancy locker rooms or pretty towels or top of the line equipment. It's about community. It's about caring. It's about making a difference. It's about family. It's about serving others. And this week we get the chance to help others have the same opportunity that we might take for granted every day....and that's to join our YMCA.
So please.....get out your SUPER HERO GEAR and get out your CASH!! Tomorrow and Friday, have fun with your favorite super hero stuff...and bring CASH!! I'll be taking donations at the door and every penny goes to the Y for All Campaign. Every dollar makes a difference. Spread the word and let's raise some serious money for the Y for All!!
To say I am proud of this group of new Insanity instructors, in an understatement!
After every certification I do, I am reminded...it is not about the numbers on a scale...or the amount of push-ups you can do...or how fast you can power jump....it is about being STRONG and HEALTHY and FIT and truly understanding how crazy awesome it is to FEEL strong, healthy, and fit.
Numbers are on a scale are just that --- numbers. But the FEELING of being able to MOVE, to jump, to run, to ski, to downdog, to kick, to punch, to play, to do whatever it is YOU want to do....that is priceless.
That is why I love my job. That is why I want everyone to just MOVE more, to do SOMETHING. If they feel led to it, to get certified to teach and share their passion. If they feel led to it, to become a coach and truly make a difference. But it starts with understanding that it's not about a scale. It's about YOU. You being the best YOU possible.
