Regardless of where we are on our journeys, we've all experienced 'haters' at one time or another. Another's negativity can derail instantly if we let it.
I was recently able to share some tips with FOX 59's Angela Ganote on how to share your journey with others so that everyone comes out feeling great!
TIP #1: Be authentic
When talking about your journey -- it is important to note that it IS a journey. We ALL have started somewhere. If someone is feeling bad -- probably because they think they can’t do what you’re doing -- remind them that you didn’t think you could do it. We can ALL do more than we think -- it all starts with ONE decision. When others see you doing things they think / know they should be doing it makes them feel uncomfortable...and that’s okay. Getting uncomfortable is when change happens.
TIP #2: Be aware
If you mention something to someone about a new workout program and they ask additional questions -- they’re interested. If not, then that’s probably a good sign they’re not interested...YET. Be aware of that and don’t shove anything down their throat. The more we share our story and our journey the more interested people become...we are planting seeds that one day -- when they’re ready will grow and bloom.
TIP #3: Be proud of yourself
While we want to be sensitive to others’ feelings -- but we can also be proud of ourselves! We need to realize that we don’t need anyone else’s permission to get healthy. Grant yourself permission! We can’t live our lives for fear of being judged because we want to be healthier and happier -- but we can reach out and offer a hand to someone to needs a little boost. Afterall -- we all probably reached out and took someone else’s hand, right?
