This is how I stay on track when traveling...what do you do??
Regardless of where we are on our journeys, we've all experienced 'haters' at one time or another. Another's negativity can derail instantly if we let it.
I was recently able to share some tips with FOX 59's Angela Ganote on how to share your journey with others so that everyone comes out feeling great!
TIP #1: Be authentic
When talking about your journey -- it is important to note that it IS a journey. We ALL have started somewhere. If someone is feeling bad -- probably because they think they can’t do what you’re doing -- remind them that you didn’t think you could do it. We can ALL do more than we think -- it all starts with ONE decision. When others see you doing things they think / know they should be doing it makes them feel uncomfortable...and that’s okay. Getting uncomfortable is when change happens.
TIP #2: Be aware
If you mention something to someone about a new workout program and they ask additional questions -- they’re interested. If not, then that’s probably a good sign they’re not interested...YET. Be aware of that and don’t shove anything down their throat. The more we share our story and our journey the more interested people become...we are planting seeds that one day -- when they’re ready will grow and bloom.
TIP #3: Be proud of yourself
While we want to be sensitive to others’ feelings -- but we can also be proud of ourselves! We need to realize that we don’t need anyone else’s permission to get healthy. Grant yourself permission! We can’t live our lives for fear of being judged because we want to be healthier and happier -- but we can reach out and offer a hand to someone to needs a little boost. Afterall -- we all probably reached out and took someone else’s hand, right?
Folks are always asking me for my favorite Shakeology recipe..so ask and you shall receive!! Check out my 'recipe for success". I LOVE using the containers from 21 Day Fix / 21 Day Fix Extreme to portion out my ingredients too!
Incredible nutrition + incredible convenience = WIN
If we always wait for the perfect time to do this or that, we will always be waiting.
If we never get a little uncomfortable, a little vulnerable, we'll never grow.
NOW is the only time we have. NOW is the time, our time to GO and DO!
Shoulders. Mine are okay.
Legs? Well, not as much.
But my shoulders. Different story.
I got my skinny legs from my Dad. The broad shoulders came from my Dad too. Pretty much, I’m a carbon copy of my Dad. The Native American blood runs deep.
My shoulders are strong. I have never had to ‘work’ at my shoulders. People sometimes tell me they want arms or shoulders like mine.
How do you get strong shoulders? from hours and hours and hours of Turbo Kick and PiYo and whatever other class I was teaching practice, from carrying car seat # 1, # 2, and # 3, while holding on to small hands, from providing a place for a sleepy baby to nestle or a sick baby to cry, from carrying the weight of the death of a parent, from supporting a teenager’s head in tough times, from consistency...
Sometimes shoulders, more than any other body part, tell the story of our life. Yes, these shoulders are strong.
I bet yours are too. What story do your shoulders tell? #yesyoucan#strengthwithin #strongereveryday #max30
We've all been there -- working our hearts out in the gym pushing a little harder to get to that number on the monitor. Seeing that 'calories burned' number gives us such a sense of accomplishment. But what if you found out that those monitors were lying to you? It's true. They are.
In fact, according to a recent study cited in an article from Alternet.org, "In testing performed at UC San Francisco's Human Performance Center, researchers found that cardio machines overestimated calorie burn by 19% on average."
But that doesn't mean all your hard work is for not. It just means that you have a little leg work (no pun intended) to figure out your REAL numbers! It's a simple test called a metabolic test, this will give you an accurate look at how YOUR body functions and burns calories.
Once you know YOUR numbers you can then get a heart rate monitor and calibrate it so it is specific to YOU and not just someone who is the same age and height as you. Some gyms, including the Fishers YMCA offer metabolic testing, so be sure to check with your gym.
Check out the article From Alternet to see which other gym pieces of gym equipment are lying to you.
